Conventual sweets fair at Tentúgal

25/07/2004

Organized by the Town Council of Montemor-o-Velho, the Conventual Sweets Fair of Tentúgal, which is being held this weekend, is intended to promote the village's gastronomy and traditional confectionery without forgetting the local cultural and architectural patrimony.

The main attraction of the event are the famous pastéis de Tentúgal(sweet pastries), but it also offers other conventual specialities, such as the barrigas de freira (literally, «nun bellies») and queijadas (small cheesecakes). About ten exhibitors occupy the fair's site and show visitors how the conventual delicacies are made.

To also preserve other local traditions, there will be music meetings this afternoon with concertinas and other typical instruments, and also folk singing.
